Why did you choose RiverRock Dental Laboratory?
"It goes back to about 1991. I was working in a Medicaid office. We were very limited in what we could do, but every once in a while we could do a denture. RiverRock was not in the phonebook then, but when I called the only lab in the book, they said they did not do dentures, and referred me to Tim Bolin. I have stuck with him all this time because of how he took care of me then and his beautiful work!"
How does RiverRock measure up from a quality and precision standpoint?
"I am very persnickety, picky and precise. I schedule an hour and a half for crown prep. Because of what Tim does and what I do, crown cementation takes five minutes consistently. My patients notice that. They say, 'Now I know why you took so much time, every thing fits great, it feels like it belongs there.' They run their tongue over it, and say, 'Wow, that's nice.' They look in the mirror and say, 'It looks so natural.' Others even say, 'Yes, I know you don’t participate in my insurance and it will cost me more, but your quality and the lab you use is better than anything else I've had.' And, that is just in general!"
Where does customer service play a role in your decision to work with RiverRock?
"There was a time I could not get the shade right. I would take photos with the shade guide and send to the lab. For some reason the shade was not working. Tim came to my office (an hour away). He went way beyond what I expected, but he is committed to getting it right."
How does RiverRock make the lab relationship work?
"Communication is key. I call Tim, and we are able to smooth out any bump in the process. I do not talk to a department. The person that is working on it and/or Tim is connected directly to me. You talk to the right person every time you call. He has the people to make sure things get done right. He spoiled me with his quality; he keeps me because of his consistency."
How does RiverRock's quality versus cost compare?
"RiverRock's quality is worth their fees. I tell patients that it is a three-sided triangle (quality/time/cost). If you pick two (high quality in a timely manner), the third side (cost) will reflect it."
Why would you choose RiverRock again?
"One of the things I would be looking for is consistency of schedule. I need to tell patients this will done in two weeks. And I know that crown will actually be here in two weeks. Even it is five weeks I need to know upfront. The second is consistency of quality. I need to trust the work will be superior each time, fit and look. Finally, cost has to be commensurate with all of this. Tim and RiverRock are able to do this. They live up to their word."
What does Tim Bolin provide over and above normal his lab services?
"He stands behind his work even when I screw up. I was using a new impression technique a while back. It looked great to me and to Tim, but the new technique was distorting the old materials I was using. We had three weeks of crowns that looked right on the model but did not fit the patients' teeth. We had to redo every one of them (many patients). He did not charge me for that whole series of crowns. It was clearly my mistake, but he will look objectively at each situation and work with you. He is reasonable based on the situation. Making a buck is NOT his vocation; he wants patients to get the RIGHT results."
What about RiverRock (and Tim Bolin's) advanced dentistry credentials?
"Tim is actually keeping me up to date. He is doing leading edge work and training. He has extensive proficiency in pressable ceramics and Empress, and has comprehensive LVI training. While my training is different, I know Tim is always out there learning whatever is going on. Something I asked him to do a long time ago, which has helped a lot, was to tell me about anything that will make things better. He also asked to do the same for him."
Do you have a specific example of how Tim (RiverRock) has kept you in the lead?
"I was not convinced CEREC crowns would live up to my quality standards. I have seen some terrible CEREC crowns from other dentists. But Tim created PFM and CEREC crowns for me to compare and I was impressed. The long-term quality also seems to be what I require. Without his comparison test, I might not have gone this direction for many more months or much longer."
What specific element of RiverRock's approach to your vocation stands out?
"Tim wants the dentist to have less chair time with fewer hassles. If he can make my job easier, I am very pleased."
What else do you get from RiverRock that stands out?
"I can't say enough good things about them. They are very personable. Anybody that answers the phone is always friendly and polite. If they do not have the answer to your question, they will get it for you. If the person that has the answer is not there, they will call back. RiverRock is very good at calling back."
